Advances in technology have made movies more spectacular than ever. Not only has technology allowed movies to be created that are visually captivating, it has been a central theme to so many films. Here is a list of six must-see movies about technology.

Minority Report (2002)

Based off a short story by sci-fi master Philip K Dick, this movie stars Tom Cruise as a “precrime” officer in the year 2054. By this time, the science was there to predict crimes before they even occur, by use of three psychics called “precogs”. Back in 2002, we saw motion-based control being used as well as touchscreen computers and tablets, before we had such devices. This movie about the future may have greatly influenced our own future. The special effects are dazzling, and it gave us a look into a world without crime.

The Social Network (2010)

While this film lacks special effects, its central theme is extremely important. The Social Network takes us behind the scenes of how social media was born, and the life of a technological virtuoso. Without Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook, where would we be now? It's a great film because of its story, as well as solid acting from an excellent cast.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

This movie is over 45 years old, and still one of the greatest films of all time. Not only does it use technology to create vivid images on the screen, but its theme is about how computers start to take over and control humans. Stanley Kubrick gave us beautiful imageries in space, eerie silences, and a lot to think about.

Back to the Future (1985)

Take this DVD out and show it to your kids. We guarantee that this gem from 1985 still holds up and will captivate them. This film gave us a time machine made from a DeLorean, and the flux capacitor. Watching Michael J. fox and Christopher Lloyd scramble to get back from 1955 is a delight to this day.

Iron Man (2008)

Whether you watch one, two or three, we see Robert Downy brilliantly portray comic book character Tony Stark, a billionaire genius. He is able to create an electromagnetic chest plate to keep shrapnel from penetrating his heart. He then manufactures the famous Ironman armor, that allows him to battle enemies, and fly. This superhero has no special powers, just his own smarts.

The Matrix (1999)

This is the perfect storm of tech movies because of its story and filming techniques. The story revolves around a future where reality is nothing more than a matrix, created by conscious machines to control humans. Meanwhile they live off our body heat and electricity. This film gave us plenty of CGI, and innovative ways to use cameras for slow motion scenes, making it one of the best tech movies of its time.
