3 Ways that Hybrid Communications Can Benefit Your Business

Hybrid CommunicationsA growing number of businesses across every sector, and of all sizes, ranging from small startups to large enterprises, have made the upgrade from a conventional phone system to a leading-edge cloud-based system. And whether they are saving 30-50 percent (or more) per year, leveraging unprecedented mobility and scalability, accessing a wide range of advanced unified calling features — and the list of benefits goes on — the only regret they have is not making the switch sooner.

However, some businesses have already invested substantially in premises-based equipment (e.g. PBX hardware, T1 circuits, etc.), and/or they have an in-house IT team and want to maintain full on-site control. Fortunately, these businesses do not have to choose one or the other thanks to an innovative option: hybrid communications.

As the term suggests, hybrid communications brings together the best of both worlds: on-site and cloud-based. Here are the three key advantages of this approach:

1. Rapid Access to Unified Communications (UC) Apps

Hybrid communications enable businesses to provide their workforce with a full suite of cloud-based unified communications (UC) apps, such as online faxing, voicemail-to-email, and many others. These productivity and communications apps can be purchased on a monthly subscription basis, and access can be granted literally within minutes. There is no need for on-site installation or configuration, and all technical/end user support is provided by the off-site vendor (which is great news for on-site IT teams that are already busy enough as it is!).

2. Enhanced Financial Versatility

Hybrid communications allow businesses to decide which telecommunications functions and solutions they want to run and maintain in-house and which they want to outsource to their solutions provider, such as a hosted call center. Instead of all-of-nothing, they can strategically choose what makes the most sense (both in terms of CapEx and ongoing costs).

3. Seamless Scalability in Both Directions

One of the biggest limitations of an on-premise phone system is that scaling is complex, costly, and typically requires months of lead time, since hardware must be purchased, installed and configured. This is especially problematic when the need for additional capacity is temporary (e.g. seasonal spikes), or when it is unexpected (e.g. during a promotion or product recall).

Hybrid communications solve this problem by empowering businesses to scale the phone system in either direction quickly, simply, and cost-effectively. Furthermore, the off-site vendor can temporarily boost capacity during periods of higher-than-average system usage (including when this occurs unexpectedly).
